Ever since Roe was decided, opponents have been trying to take the decision of whether to carry or terminate a pregnancy out of women’s hands. Their efforts to overturn Roe and ban abortion outright have failed, so instead they have worked to make abortion cumbersome and expensive enough to put this safe, legal medical procedure out of reach. For instance, under the guise of “protecting women’s health,” many states have issued medically unnecessary, costly, and burdensome regulations that often have the both intent and effect of shutting down clinics.
RHTP believed that public policy ought to be based on health and science, not politics. To that end, in partnership with our allies we sought to engage policymakers and the general public in authentic, evidence- and values-based conversations to build an understanding of the importance of personal decision-making around abortion.
